Dubai Mall Parking 2026: Free Hours, Charges and Fines

Parking at a Dubai mall used to mean taking a ticket and handing it back on the way out. Not any more. The Dubai Mall charges your Salik account automatically once you run past its free hours, and Mall of the Emirates and City Centre Deira have gone barrierless, which means a camera reads your plate going in and coming out and you settle up afterwards. Nothing stops you at the exit, so it is easy to drive away owing money you did not know about.

We run a rental fleet in Dubai as an RTA-authorised dealer and agency, and mall parking has become one of the commonest ways our customers pick up a charge they never saw coming, because every one of these systems bills the number plate rather than the person behind the wheel. Here is what the main malls charge in 2026, and how to make sure the bill reaches you.

The short version

• The Dubai Mall gives four free hours Monday to Thursday and six Friday to Sunday, then charges AED 20 up to AED 1,000 a day, taken automatically from the Salik account linked to the car.

• Zabeel and Fountain Views parking stay free - Fashion, Grand and Cinema are the paid car parks.

• Mall of the Emirates gives four free hours on weekdays and the whole day at weekends, City Centre Deira gives three, and both are settled afterwards in the Parkin app rather than at a barrier.

• At the barrierless malls you have about three days to pay before a AED 150 fine is added, and the payment message goes to the number registered against the plate, which on a rental car is us.

• A People of Determination bay costs AED 1,000 and six black points, and number-plate cameras have enforced those bays at three Emaar malls since May 2026.

The Dubai Mall: four hours free, six at the weekend

Paid parking arrived at The Dubai Mall in July 2024. From Monday to Thursday the first four hours cost nothing; from Friday to Sunday you get six. After that the tariff climbs in steps, and steeply: on a weekday, four to five hours is AED 20, five to six is AED 60, six to seven is AED 80 and seven to eight is AED 100. Beyond eight hours it is AED 200, beyond twelve it is AED 500, and a full day is AED 1,000. The weekend ladder is the same from the six-hour mark onwards.

Only three car parks charge - Fashion, Grand and Cinema. Zabeel and Fountain Views are still free, and People of Determination permit holders and emergency vehicles are exempt. There is no barrier and no ticket: cameras read your plate and the fee comes out of the Salik account attached to it when you leave, so that account needs a balance.

One detail worth knowing if you pop out and come back: a short gap counts as the same visit rather than a fresh set of free hours. The mall puts that window at 90 minutes in its published parking terms and Gulf News reported two hours at launch, so do not cut it fine, and treat the mall's current terms as the authority.

Mall of the Emirates and City Centre Deira: no barrier, no ticket

Both malls switched to barrierless parking run by Parkin in early 2025 - City Centre Deira in January, Mall of the Emirates on 3 February. Unlike The Dubai Mall, the charge does not touch a Salik account - it sits against the plate and you pay it afterwards.

At Mall of the Emirates the first four hours are free on weekdays and the whole day is free at the weekend. Vox Cinemas and Ski Dubai visitors get two hours on top of the weekday allowance, and spending AED 150 or more in the mall makes the day free. After that it is AED 20 for the fourth to fifth hour, AED 40 for the fifth to sixth, AED 60 for the sixth to seventh, AED 100 for the seventh to eighth and AED 150 beyond, with AED 200 a day overnight and a AED 3 charge for driving through without stopping. City Centre Deira gives three free hours, and Gulf News reports Sunday as free all day there.

On exit a message goes to the mobile number registered against the vehicle with a payment link, and you can also pay in the Parkin app or on the Parkin website by card or Apple Pay. Khaleej Times puts the deadline at three days from leaving, after which a AED 150 fine applies; Gulf News describes a five-day window with the fine landing after three days unpaid. Treat three days as the deadline.

What the other malls do

The free allowance is not standard across Dubai. BurJuman moved to ticketless plate recognition in May 2025 with three free hours a day, another three for Vox Cinema guests who validate, and free parking all day on Sundays and public holidays; beyond that it is around AED 20 an hour, with reported penalties of AED 350 for leaving a car overnight and AED 250 for misuse. Those BurJuman figures come from a single outlet, so take the signage at the entrance as the real answer.

The pattern is the same everywhere: a free window measured in hours, a clock that starts when the camera sees your plate, and no barrier to remind you on the way out. Our Dubai parking guide covers the public roadside zones, which run on a different tariff entirely.

The part that catches renters: the charge follows the plate

None of these systems knows who was driving. They know a number plate, and they bill whoever that plate belongs to. On a rental car that is us.

At The Dubai Mall the charge comes out of the Salik account linked to the plate. Every car in our fleet carries an activated tag on an account we hold, so that charge lands on our side rather than on any account of yours. That is not a toll crossing, so ask us how mall parking is billed when you book rather than assuming it works like Salik. At the barrierless malls the payment message goes to the number registered against the vehicle, which is ours, so you never see the link at all.

The plate is on the confirmation text you get when your rental starts under the unified rental contract, which matters most after a service-day swap: the car changes, the plate changes, and the one saved in your app is suddenly the wrong one. If a charge goes unpaid and becomes a fine, that fine is passed on itemised at the amount the authority charged.

The fines, and the one that is genuinely not worth risking

Unpaid mall parking becomes a AED 150 fine at the barrierless malls. On the public parking side the RTA charges AED 150 for parking without a valid ticket and AED 100 for overstaying, with AED 200 for obstructing or misusing a parking facility.

The one to take seriously is a People of Determination bay: AED 1,000 and six black points under the federal traffic law. In May 2026 Parkin signed a multi-year agreement with Emaar to enforce exactly this at The Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall and Dubai Marina Mall, using number-plate cameras that scan cars in those bays and check for a valid permit. Suspected violations are flagged to an inspector at a control centre, with a short grace period so an honest mistake can be fixed by moving the car, and inspectors also check on foot. Treating a marked bay as a ten-minute convenience is a far worse bet than it was a year ago.
