What a Car in Dubai Actually Costs a Month (2026)

2 October 2026Urban Go8 min read

What a month with a car in Dubai really costs in October 2026: rental, petrol at AED 4.28, Salik, parking and fines, with the arithmetic shown.

Petrol went up by about 60 fils a litre on 1 October, close to 16 per cent in a single month and the third monthly rise in a row. That is a good moment to do the sum properly: what does a month with a car in Dubai actually cost, once the rental, the fuel, the tolls and the parking are all in?

We run a rental fleet in Dubai as an RTA-authorised dealer and agency, so we have an obvious interest in the answer. We have tried to write it straight anyway. Below is every line that lands on a driver in a month, with the October numbers and the arithmetic shown.

The short version

  • A monthly rental with us starts at AED 1,700, which already covers insurance, registration, maintenance, 24/7 roadside assistance and 4,000 km a month on most cars.

  • Fuel is the line that just moved - Special 95 is AED 4.28 a litre from 1 October, up from AED 3.69 in September.

  • A 1,500 km commuting month costs roughly AED 450 to 515 in petrol at the new price, against roughly AED 390 to 445 in September.

  • Salik is AED 6.30 a crossing at peak and AED 4.20 off-peak, and free between 1am and 6am.

  • Add it up on stated assumptions and a compact car runs to roughly AED 2,550 to 2,750 a month, before fines and before any parking beyond the daily commute.

Fuel: the number that just moved

The Fuel Price Committee sets UAE pump prices once a month and they hold for the whole month. From 1 October 2026, Special 95 is AED 4.28 a litre, Super 98 is AED 4.40, E-Plus 91 is AED 4.21 and diesel is AED 4.80. Special 95 is the grade our fleet runs on, and it rose from AED 3.69 - close to 16 per cent in one step, the third monthly increase in a row.

What that does to a month depends entirely on your mileage, so here is the arithmetic rather than an estimate. At a typical 7 to 8 litres per 100 km, 1,500 km of driving burns 105 to 120 litres, which is AED 450 to 515 at AED 4.28. The same month in September was AED 390 to 445. Drive the full 4,000 km a monthly plan includes on most cars and it is AED 1,200 to 1,370, against September's AED 1,030 to 1,180. A 45-litre tank now costs about AED 190 to fill.

Prices are federal, so no emirate is cheaper, and there is nothing to shop around for. The current month's rates are always on our petrol prices page, which we update on the 1st. On any rental, from any company, fuel is yours - ours is recorded at the level you collect the car at and returned at that level, so you never pay for fuel you did not use.

Salik: what the gates add

Dubai's tolls are charged per gate crossing, and since 5 per cent VAT was applied to them on 1 June 2026 the rate is AED 6.30 at peak and AED 4.20 off-peak. Gulf News puts peak at 6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm, Monday to Saturday, with Sunday charged at the off-peak rate all day; crossings between 1am and 6am are free. There is no monthly cap.

The arithmetic is simple once you know your route. Two crossings a day on 22 working days is 44 crossings a month. All at peak, that is AED 277; all off-peak, AED 185. We recharge Salik at cost plus AED 1 per crossing, itemised on your bill, so on 44 crossings our handling adds AED 44 - which is why the honest figure to budget is AED 229 to AED 321 rather than the toll alone.

Whether you cross a gate at all depends on where you start and which road you take, so the only honest answer is to work it out on your own route. Our Salik guide covers the gates, the tag and how to check a balance. Salik tags travel with the car.

Parking: the line that varies most

Paid roadside parking in Dubai also carries VAT since 1 June 2026, and the published roadside rates are AED 4.20 an hour off-peak and AED 6.30 an hour at peak in the busiest zones. Khaleej Times additionally reports multi-storey parking at AED 5.25 an hour or AED 42 for 24 hours. Rates and free windows vary by zone, so the sign beside the bay is the authority - our Dubai parking guide has the zone codes and the tariff table.

For a monthly budget, two hours a day in a paid zone across 22 working days is about AED 185 at the off-peak rate and about AED 277 at the peak rate. If you park at home and at an office with its own car park, it can be nothing at all. There is no sensible average here, which is why it is the hardest of the four lines to put a single number on.

One practical point that costs renters real money: parking is charged against the number plate, not the person, and we cannot open, pay or monitor a session on your behalf. If we swap your car on a service day, the plate saved in your app is no longer the car you are driving. Our step-by-step guide to paying for parking covers the app, the SMS format and the plate trap.

Fines, and the line you cannot budget for

Traffic and parking fines are the one cost that does not belong in a monthly plan, because a careful month costs nothing at all. Anything issued against the plate comes back to whoever was driving, and on a rental that means us passing it to you: traffic fines are billed to you, itemised.

We have deliberately not published a current Dubai parking fine amount on this page. The figures circulating online come almost entirely from rental and insurance marketing sites rather than from the authority or a news outlet, and an out-of-date number here would cost a reader money. Check the amount against the issuing authority before you pay it. Our UAE traffic fines guide covers the mistakes that generate them.

The useful framing is that fines are avoidable in a way the other three lines are not. Fuel, tolls and parking are the price of using the roads. A fine is the price of a specific mistake, and two that are easy to avoid are letting a parking session lapse and leaving an old plate saved in the app after a car swap.

A month, added up

Put the four lines together for a compact car on a monthly rental, driving 1,500 km, crossing two Salik gates on each of 22 working days and paying for two hours of roadside parking on those same days. The rental is AED 1,700. Fuel is AED 450 to 515. Salik is AED 229 to 321 including our AED 1 a crossing. Parking is about AED 185 at the off-peak rate. That totals roughly AED 2,550 to AED 2,750.

Those assumptions are doing a lot of work and they are stated so you can change them. Drive half as far and the fuel line halves. Take a route with no gates and the Salik line disappears. Park free at both ends and so does AED 185. The point is not the total, it is that three of the four lines depend on how you drive and only the rental is fixed in advance.

Note also what is not on the list. Insurance, registration, routine maintenance and 24/7 roadside assistance sit inside the rental price rather than beside it, and there is no depreciation to absorb and no finance. Our guide to what a monthly rental costs compares the rental line across the fleet.

Renting a car in Dubai?

Monthly rentals with us start from AED 1,700. The price includes VAT, comprehensive insurance, registration, routine maintenance, 24/7 roadside assistance and 4,000 km a month on most cars, with delivery and collection around Downtown Dubai. You can pay a refundable deposit of AED 1,500 on most cars, or rent with no deposit for about AED 245 a month more. FAQ

How much does it cost to run a car in Dubai per month?
On the assumptions set out above - a compact car on a monthly rental, 1,500 km of driving, two Salik crossings a day and two hours of paid parking on 22 working days - roughly AED 2,550 to AED 2,750, of which AED 1,700 is the rental. Change the mileage or the route and the figure moves a lot.
What is the petrol price in Dubai right now?
Special 95 is AED 4.28 a litre for October 2026, Super 98 is AED 4.40, E-Plus 91 is AED 4.21 and diesel is AED 4.80. Prices are set monthly and hold until 1 November. Fuel costs the same in every emirate.
How much is Salik a month?
It depends on how many gates your route crosses. A crossing is AED 6.30 at peak and AED 4.20 off-peak, and free between 1am and 6am. Two crossings a day on 22 working days comes to AED 185 to AED 277 in tolls, plus our AED 1 per crossing.
Is fuel included in a monthly car rental?
No. Fuel is not part of the rental price with us. Our policy is same-to-same: we record the fuel level when you collect the car and you return it at that level. If it comes back lower, the difference is charged.
What is not included in the monthly rental price?
Fuel, Salik, parking, traffic fines and any kilometres beyond the included allowance, which is 4,000 km a month on most cars at AED 1 per extra kilometre. Comprehensive insurance, registration, routine maintenance and 24/7 roadside assistance are all included.
Is renting cheaper than owning a car in Dubai?
It depends on how long you need the car and how you value the flexibility. The running costs on this page - fuel, tolls, parking, fines - are the same either way. What differs is that a rental price already carries insurance, registration, maintenance and depreciation, and an owner pays those separately.
