Jebel Ali Postal Code: What to Enter and How to Address Mail

If you are sending something to Jebel Ali and a form insists on a postal code, the answer most people are looking for is 00000. The UAE has no system of postal or ZIP codes, so 00000 is a placeholder that gets a website to accept the address, not a code that tells anyone where to take the parcel.

What actually gets mail to a person or a company in Jebel Ali is the rest of the address: a name, a P.O. Box where there is one, the building or warehouse, the area, the emirate and a phone number. This guide covers what to enter, how to write the address in the order Emirates Post uses, how P.O. Boxes and Makani numbers fit in, and why the Dubai area code is a different thing altogether.

The short version

• Jebel Ali has no postal code of its own, and neither does anywhere else in the UAE - enter 00000 only when a form will not accept a blank.

What is the postal code for Jebel Ali?

There isn't one. Gulf News puts it plainly: the UAE does not have ZIP or postal codes for areas, and the postal system is organised around the P.O. Box number that Emirates Post issues to individuals and companies. Khaleej Times, reporting on why P.O. Boxes still matter, says the same and adds that the Dubai Central Post Office suggests using 00000 if a form requires a ZIP code.

So the jebel ali zip code, the jebel ali dubai postal code and the dubai postal code are all the same answer: 00000 in the box that demands it, and the real delivery detail everywhere else. That is also why searches for a Jebel Ali code turn up different-looking numbers. Some sites list codes for free zones, business districts or industrial areas, but none of them is a street-level postal code, and you should only use one if the recipient or the courier asks for it.

The mistake to avoid is treating 00000 as if it located anything. It satisfies the form and nothing more - it does not tell the sorting office, a courier or a warehouse gate which of thousands of recipients in Jebel Ali the item is for.

How to write a Jebel Ali address

Emirates Post's addressing standard for the UAE runs in this order: the recipient's title and name, the P.O. Box number, the physical address (building name, street name and flat number), the emirate, and a telephone number. Follow that order and add the area, because Jebel Ali is not one small neighbourhood. It takes in the port, Jebel Ali Free Zone, the industrial areas and residential communities across the south-west of Dubai, and a parcel addressed only to Jebel Ali, Dubai, 00000 names a very large place.

For a business, write: the contact name or department; the company name exactly as the recipient gives it; P.O. Box and its number; the building, warehouse, office or plot number; Jebel Ali Free Zone or Jebel Ali Industrial Area as appropriate; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; postal code 00000 if the form demands one; and a phone number starting +971.

For an individual, write: the full name; the apartment, villa or building; the street or community, Jebel Ali; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; 00000 only if required; and a mobile number. If the person has a P.O. Box, put it straight under the name, where Emirates Post expects it. Ask the recipient for the address in the form they use rather than assembling it from a map - companies in free zones in particular often have mailroom or gate arrangements a sender cannot guess.

P.O. Boxes are what regular post relies on

Because there are no postal codes, letters and many official documents in the UAE go to P.O. Boxes rather than to doors. Khaleej Times quotes Emirates Post as saying that businesses must have a P.O. Box associated with their address to receive packages and avoid losses, and that the box gives a secure address for contracts, cheques and other sensitive post. Never guess a company's box number or copy one from an old letterhead - use the number the recipient gives you.

Residents can rent a personal box online with UAE PASS. Emirates Post's own service page says applicants must be UAE residents aged at least 18 and need only an Emirates ID, and the box receives domestic and international letters, packets and parcels. At the time of writing its basic MyBox plan costs AED 300 a year plus an AED 70 registration fee, with MyHome plans that add delivery priced higher. Companies have their own corporate P.O. Box options.

A box has to be kept up. Emirates Post says it is the customer's responsibility to check the box regularly and renew within 30 days of the contract expiring, and that mail left uncollected past the grace period is returned to the sender or disposed of.

Makani numbers and map pins find the door

A P.O. Box gets letters to the post office. A courier delivering to a building needs something else, and in Dubai that is the Makani number. Makani is Dubai's smart address system, and Emirates 24|7 describes the number as a unique 10-digit code that leads to a building's entrance with one-square-metre accuracy. You will usually find it on a plaque in the lobby, on the building facade or at the entrance of a villa.

Makani does not replace the P.O. Box for post. It complements the physical address, and it earns its place in exactly the kind of setting Jebel Ali is full of: warehouses, logistics parks, industrial plots and free zone buildings where a street name alone will not get a driver to the right gate. The Makani app will also show your number from your current location, and Emirates 24|7 notes that government bodies, the police and ambulance services all use the system.

For a courier shipment into Jebel Ali the most reliable address carries all three layers: 00000 if the form requires it, the P.O. Box if the item is going by post, and the Makani number or a map pin for the physical delivery - plus the warehouse number or gate if there is one.

Postal code, ZIP code and Dubai area code are different things

Postal code, ZIP code and PIN code are the same question asked by people from different countries, and in the UAE they share one answer: 00000 where a form demands it. The dubai area code is something else. It is the telephone code for Dubai landlines, 04, and The National explains that callers from abroad dial +971 and drop the leading zero, so a Dubai landline becomes +971 4. UAE mobile numbers begin with 05.

The common mistakes behind a delayed Jebel Ali delivery are rarely the code at all. They are writing only Jebel Ali, Dubai, UAE; leaving out the P.O. Box on regular post; omitting a mobile number the courier can call before the final drop; putting 04 or 971 in the postal code field; and using an out-of-date company address after a business has moved warehouse or office.
